What Birth Really Is
The definition of birth is mostly associated with the birth of a child, and to commemorate our birth, we celebrate birthdays every year. But the origin of the word BIRTH derives from Middle English; from Old Norse byrth – meaning the beginning or coming into existence of something like the birth of democracy (Oxford Dictionary).
It’s important to realize that everyday can be a birth day because every day offers us the gift of a new beginning or the coming into existence of something. That something is what makes our short journey on earth a constant adventure. For most people, birthdays are synonymous with joy, parties, spending time with family and friends, self-recognition, self-reflection, and self-appreciation. And that’s fine. But looking at the meaning of birth in a different way can change someone’s life around.
A Life-Changing Perspective
We’ve all heard it before; life is short. Fortunately for us, we have the power to choose happiness or unhappiness every moment of every single day of our lives regardless of circumstance or situation. Faith and trust create freedom and peace; the antithesis creates a self-imposed prison. This awareness allows us to celebrate a birth day every day. When we wake up each day knowing it is a birth day, the start of new day; not a birthday – regardless of what adversities, setbacks, or challenges we face – we can then seek out the beginning of something new, exciting, and fulfilling. It’s a genuine life-changing perspective; one where we can celebrate our birth days 365 days a year.
